Earrings @kitchycactusclay
Hello. My name is Megan and I am a RomCom-aholic. If you didn’t already know, Jenelle is my sister, and when she asked me to write a blog post about my favourite Romantic Comedies, I couldn’t say no.
I have always loved Romantic Comedies and could watch them over and over a million times! Maybe it’s because of the unlikely duos or serendipitous meet-cutes but whatever the reason I love them and always will. Since February is love month, what a perfect opportunity to share my top Romantic/ Romantic Comedies. If you’ve seen them then you know why they are on my list and if you haven’t then you are in for a treat! So make a bowl of popcorn, grab your favourite chocolate and get ready! For I have planned 14 dates with Tom, John, Hugh and Sandra and a few lucky others to bring us to Valentine’s Day!

A date with Tom Hanks
The Nora Ephron trilogy is a perfect place to start which includes my top movie of all time, You’ve Got Mail! Even though Tom is not in When Harry Met Sally you can’t watch the trilogy without watching all three in order!
When Harry Met Sally – Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal (Amazon Prime)
When Harry Met Sally is about two strangers that drive across the country together, discussing that men and women can’t just be friends. Then throughout their lives they keep running into each other until they become close friends and then more than friends.
Sleepless in Seattle – Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks (Amazon Prime)
Sleepless in Seattle has Tom as a widow talking to a radio show host about his late wife. This reaches Meg’s character’s ears and she crosses the country to meet this amazing guy she heard on the radio. With many references to a romantic movie classic, An Affair to Remember, it is sure to capture your heart.
You’ve Got Mail – Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks (Netflix)
Now You’ve Got Mail, my absolute favourite, seen it so many times I can quote any part of it! This one is about two rivalling business owners that also happened to randomly meet in a chat room, but they don’t know that they know each other in real life. This movie is my favourite because Tom’s character finds out about halfway through but Meg’s doesn’t find out till the end, and she doesn’t care that he hid it from her! Swoon!
Splash – Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks (Disney +)
Splash is about a regular guy who falls in love with a mermaid that he doesn’t know is a mermaid. She came to land to find him, so it’s about their relationship and the scientist that is looking to expose her, played by Eugene Levy.
A date with John Cusack
Serendipity – Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack (Amazon Prime)
Now John Cusack is probably best known in the romance movie world for Say Anything but these movies are so good! Serendipity gets me in the feels, one chance interaction changing their lives until they meet again! My friend actually went to New York and brought me back the Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate, because she knew how much I loved this movie!
Must Love Dogs – Diane Lane and John Cusack (Amazon Prime)
Must Love Dogs is about getting back out there after a divorce, and involves some pretty interesting online dates.
A date with Hugh Grant
Notting Hill – Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant (Amazon Prime)
Hugh Grant has a sarcastic, dry humour quality that makes him very lovable. Notting Hill is a classic but I feel the other ones haven’t gotten the love they deserve!
Two Weeks Notice – Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant (Amazon Prime)
Two Weeks notice actually includes both Hugh and Sandra, and they are great together! An activist ends up working for a business mogul and she ends up putting in her two weeks notice but has to find a replacement first. But he’s not going to find anyone better than her and she’s not going to find anyone qualified.
Music and Lyrics – Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant (Amazon Prime)
Music and Lyrics is a fun movie about a washed out pop star and the girl who waters his plants. They end up working together on a project and fall in love. Hugh and Drew make this movie fun and light hearted.
A date with Sandra Bullock
While You Were Sleeping – Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman (Disney +)
Sandra in While You Were Sleeping is my all time fav! Just goes to show life doesn’t always turn out the way you planned.
The Lake House – Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves (Amazon Prime)
In addition, The Lake House, even though it loosely involves time travel, both living two years apart, is very well done in my opinion and takes place around Valentine’s Day making it perfect for my list!Â
Mix and Mingle
Return to Me – Minnie Driver and David Duchonvy (Amazon Prime)
Return to Me is about a widowed man that happens to meet and fall for a woman that received his dead wife’s heart. The grandfather and his friends really make the movie funny with all their Italian antics.
The Holiday – Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black (Netflix)
The Holiday, although could be a Christmas movie, is perfect year round! Two random strangers switch houses for the holidays and turns out to be exactly what they both needed.
A Walk to Remember – Mandy Moore and Shane West (Amazon Prime)
A Walk to Remember is one of Nicholas Sparks original films, is actually based on his sister’s life, and is a must watch. An unlikely pair from different cliques end up working on a play together and ultimately fall in love.Â
A bonus Date night with Nicholas Sparks is always a good idea. But that is not for the faint of heart, be prepared with a box(es) of kleenex.
I hope my list helped you discover some new favourites and rediscover some old ones.
